I love trad bear archery bows, However, After purchasing a new genaration super grizzly, i can tell that the old school grizzly is more like a new gen super grizzly, and the New gen Grizzly has been downgraded a bit compared to it's original built.
Here are pictures of three grizzly bows, one new (2022) and one from the 70's and one from the 60's i believe.
I was happy with my 36# 70' grizzly but i needed to buy a 40# for hunting legaly,
I read from every grizzly bow's description on every bow shop selling the grizzly that the last desing change on the grizzly was in 1964 ... so i was curious... maybe Fred did his last modification in 1964 but
I see that bear archery has reduced the limb tip shape and suppose it helps with speed, but
I want to know the technical reason in the lamination change On the grizzly,
We see in the older model that there are two layers of laminated wood, one on the back and one on the belly, but in newer models, they only have one layer of laminated wood on the belly...i feel it impact negatively the speed of the bow and it has a stiffer draw pound per pound compared to the old school , or to the super grizzly wich has the double lamination.
Also, why would one build a riser in solid wood like on newr model compared to having two or three different type of wood glued together like the 70's model?
And to the tech guy outthere, why in **** did Bear archery remove the **** inserts where we could fit a quiver, a stabilizer or a fish line in the riser?
But after all, shooting the 2022 still feelslike a grizzly: that grip , full in the hand yet it's like you have just a thin pressure point, that balance upon release , and that way it feels smooth in the hand as the arrow just left shelf and you see it fly straight to the point! It almost live up to my expectation of the grizzly's shooting experience and accuracy .
Just got a beautiful grizzly from CAO. It is my first serious recurve after learning to shoot on an old 40 lb recurve I inherited. I have purchased many bows, horse style to practice thumb draw, and a bear Montana was my first taste of bear products. I do enjoy shooting that one but this grizzly just seems easier to shoot, fits my hand so well and has crazy smooth and silent draw and shot. It seems very naturally accurate and blows away what I was achieving with my old recurve already after the first 100+ shots today. I just couldn’t put it down and didn’t want to stop shooting it. It has a beautiful deep dark wood stain and so I think it looks almost as nice as it functions. I got it at 50# since I regularly shoot 40 and 45 # bows and my Montana is 55#. I think this is a sweet spot for me and I will use this bow for hunting eventually. The Montana, even though it is only 5 lbs heavier , feels like a lot more to me and is tiring after the first dozen shots.
This has got to be the smoothest and fastest trad recurve I've ever shot! The wood and fiberglass lamination give it a simple yet elegant look. I cannot put this bow down!
This was the first bow I ever bought. 45lbs was probably too much but I also got a 25lbs bow to practice with. The grizzly is fantastic. The more I practice the better I get and this bow feels powerful. It's really fun and absolutely worth the money.
