The Zen Vane is designed to help control large diameter arrows while solving clearance issues for high end target archery. The Zen Vane has become a favourite among target archers and spot shooters. With its massive area of coverage, it can help even the largest diameter shafts find the center of the target. Zen Vanes are a fantastic replacement for feathers on indoor compound setups.

Works well as replacement vanes for Umarex AirSaber, Then...

At first, I bought these vanes for the sole purpose of refletching the bolts of an Umarex AirSaber "air bow". The Zen vanes have very much the same profile (emphasis on length and height) as the originals on the bolts. The bolts are almost like the fat indoor target arrows which calls for these low profile vanes.

On re-fletching the bolts, I added a right helix on the vanes. Some minor re-sighting of the scope was required. However, once sighted in, the shots of the re-fletched helical bolts was incredibly accurate. Test shots were done on separate targets though as grouping test is not recommended for air bows as the bolts have an exposed rear end that invites Robbin Hooding.

Then I experimented with six 6.2mm ID carbon arrows with the same helical setup. These vanes have a good blend of stiffness and toughness of material. Grouping was super tight. The impact of the tips and vanes on grouping was endured without issue.

Finally I did the same to some Easton 5mm for fun. The experiment ended again with extremely satisfying result.

Now I am looking forward to do a new batch of arrows with these vanes. Should check out the bare shafts soon.
